The Club’s traditional end of season walk saw a return to the Blackstairs and Barrow Valley with an overnight option in Graiguenamanagh. Conditions were ideal for the climb from Scullogue Gap over Blackstairs Mountain and up and down the ridge towards Glynn. The six hour walk in strong sunshine but with a cooling breeze in off the Irish Sea ended with a most welcome refreshment in Byrne’s Pub in Glynn. Later in the evening a most pleasant meal was had in the Waterside Guesthouse on Graigue’s key front.
Sunday’s walk was a pleasant 16 k round trip along the Barrow to St. Mullins where the fare on offer at Mullachan cafe was enjoyed al fresco with the backdrop of the river and the monastic and medieval traces of St. Mullins.
The club takes a break from the hills until September but any reader with a reasonable level of fitness who would like to try hillwalking do contact the club through the website or Facebook.
