A Mountain Skills 2 course was held in the Comeraghs on Fri 20th and Sat 21st of April in the most idyllic Summner weather.
Day 1 was spent on fine navigation in the valley to the West of the Knockanaffrin ridge. The night nav started up the tracks from the ‘Girl Guides’ Hut’ to Lough Mohra and followed the ridge north past Knocksheegowna before turning East to descend back to the cars.
Accommodation was in the Ballymacarbry hostel, which was full to capacity because of an annual training week end held by SEMRA. Representatives from many Mountain
Rescue teams from around the country were in attendance.
Sunday’s hill session was in the Coumshingaun area with again lots of detailed navigation and some work on steep/broken group with risk assessments to do with these.
Logbooks to be filled now and lots of prep for MSA in September!
