Both 2 boot and 3 boot walks started South of Rathgormack on the Northern side of the Boolas.
Both groups took the ‘old’ Gap track through the forestry. When out on the open mountain the group split with the 2 boot team heading to the Gap, up onto the plateau, rounding the back of Coumlara and down the Western spur before returning via the Gap.
The 3 boot group ascended into the Boola coum up to the upper lake, then contoured West towards the spur running down to the Gap. Climbed the spur to plateau then traversed across to the ‘High Point’ 792m. The group went to the back wall of Coumshingaun to take in the beautiful views and colours on this wild and blustery day.
On the return across the plateau the walkers were ‘lambasted’ by an horrendous hail storm. Thankfully it passed over as the group descended back towards the forestry and back to cars.
