A joint walk with the Tullow Mountaineering Club took place on Sunday 1st March with an approach to Mount Leinster from the Corrbut Gap – an unusual angle for the Wexford Club members who participated. After a harsh start in driving snow conditions improved to reveal a magical winter landscape as the group made its way up to the mast. After a quick lunch stop in the shelter of the transmitter buildings the group broke into three : those who were anxious to witness what turned out to be a fine victory over England in rugby were first off the hills with the more adventurous group following Micheál along the ridge to the “Shepherd’s hut” and then a steep descent to the Clody stream with a moderate uphill finish through the woods.
All then met up in Borris where the Tullow Club kindly hosted soup , sandwiches , tea and coffee – for which the Wexford members are indebted to their hosts – The Tullow Mountaineering Club – and guides on the day : Ann and Micheál
