A very successful Alpine meet took place in the Ecrins National Park in Southern France from July 5th to the 20th 2014. There were numerous courses from Introduction to Alpine Mountaineering to Advanced to Climbing technique. There were lots of snow and mixed high mountain routes which involve the inevitable 3.00 am breakfast for the Alpine start. Climbing skills were fine tuned at the single pitch bolted crag just beside the campsite. Numerous multi pitch bolted routes climbed also. Approx 70 MI members took part in the meet. Many of these were self directed. It was an extremely sociable event, with terrific sharing of ideas, skills and information. The little village of Ailefroide was more or less taken over by the Irish and some of the locals were included in the céillí nights!
Photos show the Pic de la Grave 3667m, Le Glacier Blanc, Le Barre des Ecrins 4102m, Arete des Bruyere (Val de Lauzet) and the bolted crag at the Ailefroide campsite.
